Online analysers can be used to assist in improving the performance of flotation circuits. Historically several different devices have been used in this application measuring an assortment of operational performance elements with variable success. This project evaluated the capability of the MPOF2 optical ash meter to provide an instantaneous indication of flotation tailings stream ash. A range of feed solids, ash, and contaminant conditions were tested with the objective of establishing the "proof of concept" of the optical ash meter as a device suitable for tailings ash measurement. The performance assessment investigated the capability of the MPOF2 to function as a stand-alone, online ash analyser for the continuous monitoring of flotation tailings ash and therefore provide an indication of flotation efficiency. The test work has demonstrated that the unit does provide online readings which follow the ash trends of laboratory analysed samples taken from the same slurry source. The degree of alignment was high which provided confidence that the MPOF2 can function as both in a trigger action response role, as well as potential use as a primary control variable to drive flotation operational settings for real-time circuit management and optimisation.
